Marc Hannaford solo at Northcote Town Hall

Please enjoy this solo performance given as part of the 2013 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival.

Marc named the 2013 Freedman Fellow by the Music Council of Australia

I am extremely happy to be named the winner of this year's Freedman Fellowship.

Here is a review of the evening's performances.

Many thanks to the judges, the MCA and my bandmates Sam Pankhurst and James McLean.

The money will be used for Scott Tinkler and I to record and perform with New York musicians Ellery Eskelin and Tom Rainey.

Synaesthesia - Live performance at M.O.N.A., Hobart

Please enjoy the recording of the solo performance I gave at the Museum of Old and New Art's Synaesthesia festival in November, 2012. The piece brings together music my Carlo Gesualdo, Oliver Messiaen, J.S. Bach and Alexander Scriabin with improvisation with an overarching theme based on infinity taken from the writings of Jorge Luis Borges.

Recital Footage

On November 21st I gave my final recital for my Masters of Music Performance (by Research) degree at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club.

Here is the (almost complete) footage, with HQ sound, of that performance.

I highly reccomend checking out the program notes, which can be read on my blog here.

This performance features my working trio of Sam Pankhurst on bass and James McLean on drums

Posted: 2013-11-15T00:00:00

The Unpossibility of Language is the new release from Marc Hannaford, violinist Erkki Veltheim and trumpeter Scott Tinkler.

We are extremely happy with the improvisations on this recording, and feel it documents the highly developed language for improvisation we have worked on for years.
